"New World"

by Ben Ling

This poem by Ben Ling has the honour of being the first piece of poetry to appear on the website and we hope that it won't be the last, nor do we hope that it will be the last we hear from Ben...

* * * * *

When this world is used,

Will we move on?

Will the young want this planet,

When we are gone?

* * *

Do we pack our bags,

And go far away?

Or do we try to fix things,

Right here today?

* * *

This world is torn apart,

by pollution and destruction,

If this carries on,

nothing will function.

* * *

Will we have to leave our home,

Just to stay alive?

But on this New World,

Would we survive?

* * *

Would our problems stay behind,

Or would they come along?

They say it won’t happen again,

But can’t they be wrong?

* * *

Oh why do we have to go

And leave our home?

We know it’s all our fault,

Yet we still blame and moan.

* * *

Won’t we just trash this New World,

Like we did the last?

It might happen in the future,

If it’s happened in the past.
