Downloads FAQ - Updated 1st January 2004
As our downloads section grows, many of you will have a lot of questions that you want answering about our downloads service. Hopefully, we'll be able to answer most of them here. If you have a question that isn't covered here, click on the link at the bottom of this page.
General Questions
You keep asking for donations to your site or for people to keep visiting advertisers and signing up for services or buying goods from them. Why do you keep doing this?
To be honest, this site costs a lot of money to run, especially the Downloads section, and without financial support, we are not sure how long we will be able to continue the service for. If everyone can spare a small donation or could make use of the advertisers on the site, it will generate enough income to allow us to fund the site indefinitely, adding more free games and other content.
Apart from continuing to help fund the site, what other benefits are there for donating?
We are considering the possibility of creating a "hidden" part of the website which will be made available to those who have donated to the site as a way of saying "thankyou". This could include articles, art, plus extra exclusive downloads just for donors.

Why are some of the titles on the site cracked?
In the case of many older games, these came with copy protection and as such, there was no way we could bring them to you here. In other cases, many titles are just not available to us in un-cracked forms at the moment. We will only include cracked titles if we have NO alternative source of the software AND if the publisher is happy with us doing so.
Why do you only have a few games for the Atari ST?
One of the main issues with the Atari ST is that of the size of the games. For most ST titles, they don't take up a great deal of space, and the only copies of these games we can find are ones that are on cracked compilations with other titles. Obviously, unless we have clearance to include all of these, we need to source the games elsewhere, but we are working on it.
Is it really worth including all of these old games on the site? Aren't they dated?
While the graphics and sound may have dated with these old games, most have retained their playability. Even if an 8-bit game is 20 years old, we feel that you can still get plenty of enjoyment out of playing them.
Why are there more 8-bit titles than anything else?
To be honest, they are easier for us to track down. There are more possible sources for us to track these games down from, they are quicker for us to put together and upload, and they are a lot easier to test. Typically, we can test and prepare as many as 10-15 8-bit games an hour, compared with just a couple of 16-bit titles. Also, it's a lot easier for us to get permission to include old 8-bit games than it is more recent titles, but we are working on it!
I've noticed you haven't added any new titles for a while. Why is this?
Several reasons. Throughout the summer of 2003, we were tied up with other projects and weren't able to devote as much time to this website as we would have liked. That work has continued, and it's only recently that we've been able to return to working on this site as well as our others.
We're still trying to source software, but at the moment we're concentrating on titles from publishers we've already got clearance from. My main goal now is to add more information on each title, and giving each game it's own page on the site, with better links and screenshots and pack art. Hopefully you'll start to see a lot of new titles appearing soon.
